I could never see a problem with rope towing. Have done it many times. More than once I had no rope so I "borrowed" the bottom wire from a farm fence. A loop (2 strands) was plenty strong enough to tow with.
Several times I have pulled cars out when bogged with wire strainers.
Have used wire strainers to remove motors from cars several times when I didnt have a chain block. ~ a little farm engineering!!
