I’ve got a few sheepskins. I have to admit though, that I
can’t for the life of me figure out just how much any of them have ever helped me get a job or aided me in my career. Never really used any of them in a hands on environment.
Aviation is a 99% who you know, not a what you know industry. And, a very, very small one at that.
My dad taught me two things when I started out:
1.Take-offs are optional. Landings are mandatory.
2.Never say “no” to anyone who asks you to fly anything.
#1 was pretty self explanatory.
#2 taught me to sarcastically state: “It’s got wings, don’t it?” (I do draw the line at a PT6 chained to a sheet of plywood though.)
I think #2 is applicable in any career. Especially small industry careers.
Eventually, you’ll either run into someone from the past, or your name will come up amongst the “higher-ups”.
The last thing you want is anything negative related to it.
