My theory is it was thought up by people who have never owned crappy cars. My old VW's for example had a mat finish because they were faded!

Having owned crap cars with crap paint, the thought of perfect paint, that looks 5 miles deep is appealing. If I had gotten a new ride at 16 not so much.

Next they will sell them with factory rusted hoods.

MB needs to refrain from having 17 year old idiots provide input on their designs. If you want to buy a gaudy German car get a BMW, MB should be for the thinking person. Trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator who got lucky with a few bucks is a bad idea. A proper performance or luxury car should be confident enough with itself that it doesn't need to advertise to everyone what it is. The tacky carbon fiber crap AMG is sticking on the E class is a good example.

IMHO this is what Audi does so right, and MB used to with the 500E and first gen E55 AMG. The point is to build a Q ship, not to advertise the owners insecurity.

There performance should speak for itself, leave the tacky stick on crap to the ricers.

Perfect example.
