I believe they use that information to update their maps based on where you were driving...some locations that used to show no roads have been updated to show the roads now.
However, one of our roads has had a few changes done to it (MPH change and related signage in the area) and the "updates" haven't shown now for at least 3 of the updates I've downloaded...other updates have shown road/signage changes in as little as one update from a previous one...
No big deal. I haven't followed the little "icon" onto some little-used set of railroad tracks or off the end of any short pier...yet.
