Actually, the people that currently follow him are more of a laugh. Think about it. If you root for a team that is currently losing, it makes sense from the standpoint that you have team loyalty and that someday, they could rebound.

OTOH, when you root for a team that is non-existent, well, you really have something. Take it further, you are rooting for a team that got it's ass kicked and handed it back to them, had their leaders jailed or executed, well, it takes blind devotion and some level of stupidity.
