Had a friend in Montana back in the '80s. Best Dobro player I have ever heard, anywhere. Won on the Gong Show when he was about 15. Played "Foggy Mountain". He hung a banjo around his neck, set up his Dobro on a stand in front of him! Was still doin' it the '80s...lost touch with him, but I'll bet he's still doin' it today. Dobro was his instrument of choice, could do bluegrass, county, rock 'n roll, jazz...just about anything!!! His wife had a great singing voice in the vein of Bonny Raitt. Their arrangement of Raitt's version of "Runaway" was incredible!!!

Probably could have become famous if they had pursued that lifestyle.
