80 300 SD 116 In doing my annual valve adjustment I noted that all the emission control lines starting with the top of the valve cover to the various points were all cracked and leaking. I had sometime in the past had to disable the emission control system when a "mysterious something" got plugged up. I decided that it was time to do something to prevent unwanted material from
being sucked into the engine. I started by removing all the bad tubing and hoses. Next I started plugging all the holes they had occupied. At 8:00 PM I was given a "gentle" hint that it was time to quit and I had not had the time to finish the job.As a quicky emergency measure in order to make the car operational I simply plugged the opening on top of the valve cover.(what do I know). Next morning I started the car first thing to see if the valves all work.It starts immediately then immediately stops. And it remains the same till the valve cover plug is removed. I then connect the valve cover connection to the tube at the bottom of the air cleaner. Seems to run normally. Question: why does the engine not run with the valve cover outlet plugged? Q2: any harm in my patch job? Hey, I tried!!
