Well, what you say has some truth. However, it doesn't take into account the fact that this blind man will serve as an example of what NOT to do. Will it deter EVERY perp? Absolutely not but it will give the next guy some idea of what awaits him should he go thru with it. So thru this blind guy, you might just save a few more people from blindness.
