W126 87 560SEC (Euro) engine miss)
I've been slowly trying to get this car back to it's former glory but recently it developed a pretty horrible miss (like it's running on 7 or fewer cylinders).
I'm not sure if the issue is fuel or ignition related. Today I pulled the injectors out to test the spray pattern using carb cleaner and a straw attachment. Some had bad spray patterns so I bought 5 new ones (worldpac only had 5 in stock so I took what I could get) and used the best of the ones that I had left.
After putting the car back together, it ran a little better but still had a miss. The miss is a little unusual in the sense that at idle, it would sometimes idle fine for a few seconds and the miss. Other times it will idle well until you put the car into gear and then it would miss.
In gear, as your accelerating, there is a consistent miss.
I cracked the lines to the fuel distributor one by one and listened to the engine to change tone which it did so I no longer think that it's a bad injector (although I will replace the other 3 injectors on Tuesday).
Two of the lines when opened revealed a lot of dirty, rusty fuel. With that in mind, it could be the fuel distributor that's acting up but as the engine tone changed when I cracked the lines and it developed a miss, I think the FD itself is fine.
I have a spare EHA from a US spec car.
The plugs, coil, rotor and plug wires have all been recently replaced, so has the crank position sensor.
What else can I check?
