Dad has an '01 duramax 2500 that he uses for the farm. It's been a good truck. Had the injectors replaced under warranty, and did the lift and water pumps. Truck has almost 400,000 km on it, and it's still running like the day it was new. As we are 100 miles from the nearest city, and if a machine breaks down, we need to drive to that city, or a large town 60 miles away to get parts, the fuel economy is a good part of it. It gets an average of 30 mpg (imp) just driving. It does 16-19 driving with a trailer full of cattle depending on the wind. (100 km.h plus winds are not unheard of here.)
As farmers here, we're allowed to run off road diesel in our trucks on the highway. That makes a significant difference in the cost of fuel as well...
