W210 seat switch interchange

Anyone know if the 1996-7 and 1998-9 power seat switches for the E-class (W210 chassis) will interchange? I'd rather not tear my '96 E300D door apart to do a test if I can get the answer any other way. Physically the early and late switches are identical but there may be invisible electrical differences.

While at Pick and Pull today I got a couple of power seat switches from a 1998 E430. The Mercedes part number for the passenger side switch is 210 820 90 10. My '96 E300D has an identical-looking switch but EPC says the part number is 210 820 30 10. The break point is chassis number up to 394035 for the early part and 394036 begins the later part.

EPC usually makes a comment when a part is replaced by another and the later part fits the earlier cars. It does not do so for these seat switches. I suspect there may have been some kind of wiring harness change as the later cars were a lot more electronic.

Anyone know?
