found out a few additional things:

according to the FSM alternator voltage output should be in the 13V-14.5V range, no more or no less.

Unfortunately i couldnt find all of the minimum brush lengths for the 300E, which supposedly has 3 different alternators: 55A, 70A, and 80A. However i did manage to find out that the 55A alternators have a minimum brush length of 5mm, but am not sure if the same applies to the other 2 alternators? So, if any one knows , please post the info.
