Take my advice and remove the left hand vent first. It'll ensure you don't warp or scratch the cluster removing it with a hook or coat hanger.

It also gives you more space to undo the speedo cable, if you pull out too far it'll stretch and you risk getting a wobbly speedo.

Before handing off to get rebuilt, make sure its not just the main shaft that has come out. With the green cog facing you, push it back into the unit and make sure thats not just the issue. It may hold you over for a number of years again and saving you over $100 for a rebuild. I have a feeling thats what a lot of shops do anyway --push it back in and charge hours of labor.
