We could get "company punishment" or a "trial board', just like in the UCMJ. I went into the army in 1965 and joined the police department upon my discharge in 1967 and worked until 1998. Joining the civilian world was very difficult for me, Hell, I had to start paying for coffee and donuts!

I have a very difficult time with present day law enforcement. There are many, many good, honest and caring cops out there but there are also a lot of power hungry bozos too. I fault police departments around the country for lowering standards to attract certain groups of people to the job. Police bosses want to please the politicians that appoint them rather than serve the public.

That being said, I also fault society in general. People think "freedom" means being able to act the fool whenever they want to without any repercussions. I fault our insatiable appetite for alcohol and drugs for much of what goes on in society.

It was still a fun job, though. They gave me clothes, a gun and a Harley Davidson and said "go get 'em!" What's not to like????
Thank you for this insight, I feel that you are sincere in that you are able to voice the positive as well as the negative.
As a side-bar> I have a very good relationship with a senior detective here in Singapore-who deals in Immigration issues-human trafficking etc. Their testimony has sent 5 drug smugglers to the gallows during their career.
So,we are talking 'seasoned vet'.
During one of our visits to the states, I was asked to show this person a major city in the states. We went to Detroit. I did not take them to see the gritty ripped back side of the city. Only the tourist spots.
Within 10 minutes-this detective asked me to please get them out of the area A.S.A.P- becuase they did not feel safe.
I am glad that you made it thruogh your career, and came out intact.
