My 300E daily (but for parts...this is painful)

Ah nuts, I meant to put FEELER in the thread title, won't let me edit it now.

I have a daily driver 300E with no rust, about 100k, and in spectacular condition. Problem is, it is a theft recovery from 1991 and at some point one of the states' DMVs goofed and gave it a clean title (unbeknownst to be). Since I was planning on selling this car soon I contacted my local DMV and they basically said I'd have to go all over creation and launch an investigation reaching back 15-20 years just to get the stupid little sticker. I'm afraid I can't sell the car for road use or trade it in to a dealer without the public VIN plate as the interwebs says its a felony along with the misdemeanor of VIN tampering . So between having to drive to each state, dealing with the DMV and possibly having to tow it places (since different states will be inspecting it and I have a CT title) I'm not sure its worth it. Over my purchase price, I have about $2000 worth of maintenance items on this car as its been my DD.

This is a feeler, I am wondering the consensus on $1300, since it has brand new tires (cost me over $500), engine and trans are perfectly fine (could use a valve seal job as its an M103), interior is in very good condition (some wear on drivers' seat, few cracks in clearcoat surface of wood). I would have to have a signed statement saying that the car would not be registered for road use in the very least - and even this I am waiting for a response from the DMV if this is legal but I need to know if anyone is interested before embarking on a long legal voyage. When/if I choose to get this cleared up I will be asking $3400, which given the condition is a fair price.
