If you ran the intake to Phoenix Seriously, we have humidifiers in Colorado that run in the central AC/heating systems and Swamp coolers that cool and humidify whole houses. (they are placed high up in the house), so I don't see why a huge dehumidifier in the basement wouldn't work as long as there was a way for the heavier air to get to it.
