As a matter of fact I have just sent his previous 1982 123 240D to the wrecking yard after a recorded 860,000 miles. Corrosion killed it but it was on it's original transmission ! I know this for a fact as I started servicing his vehicles in 1988.
His late wife was complaining her seat kept getting lower .This latest one is a 1985 300D he's had for 2 years..
I dropped new liners and pistons in the 240D in 2003 at around 500,000..This was the one he drove 16 miles with a hole in the upper pan......he had crashed through a construction parking curb and a re bar had holed the upper oil pan..( Alloy section.) He said the tow truck just pulled him off ( He had no traction.) and because the engine ran, he drove down here !.
FYI: The steel part was okay but the alloy upper, apart from being holed was cracked along the whole drivers side up to the oil pump.
But he drives like this.......
