I had to do a fuse box swap out on my 82 wagon a month ago.
Amazingly, every connector was different <except on the fuse box, of course. Talk about a swap nightmare> under the dash! So, actually there is no way to accidentally swap a connection. Only on a Mercedes does this happen!

I did photo the relay bracket positions around the steering column, which aided in re-orienting them and selecting the right screws from the pile in the glove compartment liner.
