That's funny; my 15 year old Volvo still runs to the Car and Driver tested top speed (for a 1990 model 740T, at least). Of course, it's a well maintained example.
If the cars are in good mechanical order, you should take him. The 325iX runs 7.9 seconds 0-60 stock, however, let the small Bimmer six bog on launch and it's a dog down low. I think 560SELs ran it in 7.2 to 7.5 seconds when new, so if you hold your left foot down with the brake, and gas the car up to maybe 1500 rpms just before launch, you should get a pretty fast start.
