Just another update - did the right side today, the prices have dropped even lower for the axle assemblies. If you have one split you may want to do both as the other side seems likely to go within a year.

The manual shows prying out the right side and on the factory one there is a small lip you can wedge against to get it to move initially. On the replacement there is no lip which means there is nothing to pry against (the edge is sunk in a cavity initially). I think it would be easy to pop one of these out by rigging a slide hammer to the end of the axle. A few wacks from a 5lb sldie hammer should get things moving. I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader on how to rig the slide hammer to the end of the axle.
