Outboard troubleshooting
Got a 2hp Honda outboard with my new Sea Pearl Trimaran. Starts and idles fine, increases rpm's a little bit fine, but when I open the throttle it stumbles and stalls. I can play with the choke and get it up to full rpm with about 1/2 choke and it will usually continue to run at full rpm's if I push the choke off. What do people think are the possible causes? I'm thinking fuel delivery problem. It's running too lean, that's why it will power up with some choke. Could be a plugged fuel filter (in the tank), or perhaps dirt in the carb jet. Anyone have any other hypotheses? Would a bad plug cause that symptom?
I took the carb drain screw out and sprayed in a lot of carb cleaner. Problem remains.
