As I come from a third world country I'll bluntly state that such reports are junk. The suggestion to get on a plane, travel to, Africa, India, China etc and discover what poverty really is is a good one. Attributing nonsensical meanings to words to try and push a political ideology is stupid and should be renounced for what it is.
That being said, the US is in fact starting to move towards third world status by refusing to deal with the illegal immigration influx from Mexico. This means that as wages are driven inexorably downwards and wealth decreases for the middle class, the underclass expands and the country as a whole suffers. While the US is not yet a third world country it's starting to display signs of becoming one that are obvious to anyone who once lived in the third world.
