The 85 300D does not have a belt tentioner.

As mentiond check the PS fluid level.

With the engine turned off, see if the pully is loose or the bearing at the pump.
Also check the bolts that mount the pump to the bracket. 3 I think.

Wiggle the fan to check the fan clutch and water pump for looseness.

Could be the AC compressor pully/clutch.

Check the crank pully. those bolts have been known to sheer off also.

1) Not much power
