Although I agree completely with the spirit of the above, it's not as if Herman Cain learned everything he knows out of books reading by fire light. I don't know what his undergrad major is, but his Masters is in Computer Science from Purdue.
That said, in today's world given that his mom was a Maid and his Dad a Janitor, Barber and Chaufeur(sp?) he has indeed pulled himself up by his boot straps.
