On plastic parts where a high-stress molded-on shaft has snapped, I often drill through the center of the break to reinforce the plastic with a metal pin before gluing. I'll use one of those little rods left over from a pop-rivet or a piece cut from a nail or wire clothes-hanger - whatever happens to be the right size & thickness to do the job.
