A Toyota Tercel rear ended my 83 300D a few years ago and the police were amazed that my car had no damage...none! The Tercel's front end was smashed and the fender was pushed back to where the door wouldn't open. Fortunately the young mother and her child were not hurt. That rear bumper on the 123 is one tough piece of metal.
