Stupid government....taking our money and just wasting it!

Why go to this extreme? Nobody I have read, is saying government has NO role, is demanding that we stop building bridges, or stop having public financing of police and fire departments. Why bring them into this discussion?
The opposite, and equally extreme position is to maintain that there should be no limits on what government can spend. They can finance any program, subsidize any idea, support any "scientific" endeavor.
Is there not a more sensible position that requires government to track their "investments" and when they are failing, to pull the plug? Or have you never heard of the admonition to not continue to throw good money after bad? Is requiring government to be accountable to the citizens for the money it confiscates from the citizens a bad idea?
You advocate that waste is GOOD?
