I love these cars as much as anyone on this page. But, all of us in the older cars need to be very careful. I say this after owning a 1970 280S - talk about a tank!!
The reason why more modern cars calapse during impact is so that the force of that impact is taken by the car and not by you.

Turbo, if your bumper/rear deck gave way during that incident, you would not have risked a head or neck injury.
