He is opening you up to potential loss by doing that. Maybe he has a new girlfriend or likes to gamble, or whatever, but with what he is suggesting it would be set up perfectly for him to take what he wants.
Tell him he works for you not the other way around and you will cut him his 10% check. If he doesn't like it have someone else do it.
