[140] Speed-sensitive power steering goes bonkers

This morning when I fired up my 140 there was a slight rattling/creaking (hard to describe) sound for a few seconds. When I was driving out of the garage, I noticed that the power steering is not working properly – a LOT more force was needed to turn the wheel at very low speeds. This condition continued on the way to the office. It appeared as though the speed-sensitive function, which graduates force depending on speed had stopped working. The car made no strange noises and there was nothing else out of the ordinary.

Before arriving at the office, when I had a chance I shut down the engine, waited a few seconds and restarted the car. And everything went back to normal…

Has anyone experienced this before? What could be the culprit?

I have performed a search on this topic, but found nothing.

Cheers,
