The line is between the steel line from the tank and the IP. The rubber can go bad under the braided cover. Will have fuel on it if bad, may also be able to hear air being sucked in when the hand pump is operated. Replace with standard fuel line -- you may have to cut the old one off and use a clamp on the part the screws into the lift pump, I don't know what they look like on the 617.

if the hand pump is the old type and dumps fuel all over you when you work it, replace it. This has cured many a hard start problem.

You should run some diesel purge or redline in it when you get home for Thanksgiving, too.
