I own primarily bolt action military surplus rifles, and it is true the Enfield design was on the chopping block pre WW1, I personally like shooting the rifle more then the others I have. I've had the No4 for about 3 years and got the Ishapore a little over a year ago, because I was looking for another Enfield. The Engield has a nice combination of high quality parts and simplicity.
As for the metallurgy of the Ishapore. One thing about "low income" countries, they tend to put what money they do have into weapons. as a result the Ishapore I have is no less scary to put to my face and shoot then any of the other rifles in my collection. I bought the Ishapore from a friends dad, he had the gun for about 10 years before me, shot all kinds of ammo out of it, including commercial .308, no problems. I thought the Ishapore sounded a bit scary, but my friends family is the gun family in his home town, his cousin manages the sporting good store, and uncle owns the shooting range. I knew I was buying a good gun.
Honestly, a mid war production Mosin-Nagant scares me more then the Ishapore.
I pick up my new (to me) 1942 19/30 is a few days

Can't fight the habit.
