Is this procedure the same for all W126 cars? (Specifically 1983 380SEL)

Some assorted debris has fallen through the shiftgate and is sitting in the folds of the rubber boot surrounding the shift lever, and it seems like it'd be easier to clean out if I could get the wood and shiftgate off.
