You are correct to some level, the drug clinical trial was specifically for post heart operation interventions for a male subjects between the age of 45 and 60. In short the drug initial purpose was to help the blood circulation and take away some of the load from the heart. However the subjects on active drug started refusing to return the remaining pills after the trail finished as per protocol. No one from the placebo group kept the pills. The sponsor of the study (read pharmaceutical company) was puzzled by this so they have conducted interviews with all of the subject. Everyone told them that they are not sure about the heart effect but "the other" effect was fabulous. Needless to say that the post operation heart drug trial was immediately closed. 4 months later new study was commissioned and the Viagra was born.
