as I was on the totally opposite side of town from him at the time, I recommended he contact MB roadside assistance for help with the car.

they of course informed him his car had not been in for service in the last 18 months, and a free service trip would not be coming... arrgh.
he didn't call me back after that, and he did a few things I told him to do, and got moving...
anybody want to guess what I told him to do?
