In 1990 they were still using twin I-beam front suspension and sloppy pitman arm steering, with about four full turns from lock to lock. I had a distinct sense of deja vu the first time I drove a W123.

That van was where I learned the driving technique of hanging my thumb on the steering wheel spoke on the side toward the crown of the road, to take the slack out out of the steering gear.
