The head is the same except that the exhaust studs are in a different place since the '96 has twin "Y" type exhaust manifolds. Now that said, my '98 has the holes for the studs so it fits the earlier manifolds. I'm not sure the earlier head is forward compatible in that respect.

The injection pump is physically the same except that the '96 has 5.5mm pump elements. These can be swapped for the 6mm from the later pump however.
