Well not exactly, but did need to be here. My Dad is back in the hospital, 4th time since about Nov 5th. which started off with a heart attack . got through that and now it is dizzy spells and weakness in his legs. so not the best joyfull Christmas time. but that is just life. he is 90.

we left home at 8PM, and arrived in Carson City at 1AM, which is good time, and what it usually takes in the 85 300D. 283 miles by the GPS. no snow, but very cold and dry which is unusual for this time of year in the Sierra. they should have quite a few feet of snow and all the ski resorts open. there is the man made snow being made at some of them.

On the way up we pulled off in Placerville, one of the old mining towns from the 49 gold rush era, and refered to as, "Hangtown". there was not one place open, being Christmas eve had something to do with it. they closed up the town, rolled up the sidewalks, and went home.

We saw a Mc Donalds in South Shore (Tahoe) that was open and we pulled off for coffee, 11:30pm. got out of the car, and it was like walking into a meat locker. asked the girl behind the counter what the temp was. she checked and it was 10deg.

Once you get to Stateline, there is a line across the street, and on the Nevada side it is lighted up, and there are the Casino`s. Harras, Harveys and the rest of them.
Once you get to Spooner summit, a little over 7K ft, then it is a long down grade refered to as "Spooner grade". they have about 4 runaway truck ramps. so gives you an idea of the long grade.

Iam almost to the bottom, and look at the temp, and it is the first line above 100deg F. I have the old farenhidt gauge. usually runs rock solid at 175deg. so that give you some indication of how cold it was. then the engine is not working to create heat. so could be the thermostat is the problem also.
but running around today and this evening it was right at 175. something to check when we get back.

Any one saying these 240D`s are gutless and slow, are right to some degree. but I have no complaints on ours. even with 330K miles. sure it poops out on some of the long grades, and not the acceleration of a V8. but for what it is, a pretty incredable car.
