Safe or legal disposal of drivers seat belt retractor module. ( 2001 E320 sedan.)

Have just replaced drivers seat belt retractor, it has WARNING all over it and I need to junk the old one.

Apparently it is considered a 'pyrotechnical device'........ Mercedes would not ship it to me without great expense so I picked it up from dealer parts dept'.

Any suggestions on a safe and responsible way to do so?
