I suppose I can weld the broken off bit back on the windage tray. I'll clean the windage tray and check the other attachment points.

Impact in what way? Like a connecting rod bearing came off at high rpm? I haven't discounted doing something wrong as I removed the windage tray. I loosened by hand all the bolts which were similarly tight then lifted the windage tray and oil pump as a unit and set it on the floor. It wasn't until I lifted the deal from the floor that I noticed a piece remained on the floor.
