How can I tell if the IP Timing Device is good or bad. I do have access to it yet.

Is it common for the springs to come undone? How does it normally fail?

I had a strange problem with the timing to the IP suddenly retarding from 15 to about 25 ATDC. Now while adjusting the timing I am seeing some strange things from the IPTD. Seems I can advance it but it doesnt seem to snap back to its static position.

Any help?
