I tend to feel that it was a newcomer to a limited market, that offered little, if any, distinction in that market. Like any luxe brand, whether it's cars, planes, yachts . . . there has to be some substantial distinction to lure those rarified buyers.
Yes, 99% of consumers, if not more, will never know where the name Maybach is from, but they weren't not selling to the 99%.
