Reverse engagement - 1984 500 SEL
Hello Friends,
I´m truly happy there is a list like this one because otherwise there would be a lot of great old cars going to the dump because enthustiastiv owners and DIY:ers that wouldn´t be able to keep their cars.
I have a slow engagement and a abrupt disengagement of the reverse. From searching the archives I understand that this would be the symptoms when there is a leakage from the reverse clutches.
The PO informed me that there was a trans leakage from the input shaft and provided me with the correct seal to replace it.
I guess this is the one and same seal.
I´m fairly experienced with transmissions being a transmission design engineer at Saab so I think I could manage the job fairly well.
Do I understand the reference in the archives correctly correctly when I assume that the seal that I should replace is the one just behind the torque converter (i.e this would be a matter of dropping the tranny, take away the torque converter and swapping the lip seal)?
Is there anyone that has a picture of the seal location?
Any hints or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks again,
Mikael Westerberg
