Bottom line, if you love your E and don't plan on parting with it, and have the dough for mods as well as fixing things thatb break... Then hell yes. Modify the **** out of it and stick on an E 320CDI badge

Still thinking about modding it.
I love trolling Corvettes, Vipers, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, BMWs, etc. They all look shocked when a 4 door sedan is keeping up with them/pulling away.
As for stuff breaking - the engine is bulletproof as long as fueling mods are done to match the power mods. The stock fuel injection system goes static at the top of 3rd, and takes cylinder #8 out. An upgraded fuel rail/injectors are pretty cheap, and would be one of my first mods.
My transmission was built out by the PO - used SL65/SLR/Maybach components to built it to withstand stupid power.
Differential - same story. I have a P030 locking differential from an AMG Performance Pack car. Pretty beefy unit.
Only real worries are axles and driveshaft twisting. Its pretty rare, but it does happen from time to time.
