Another interesting thing about that song is its prominent mention of the Shenandoah River, which is almost entirely in Virginia.
EDIT: My comment seems dismissive of the Mountain State, so I feel I should mention that it is one of my favorite places, especially the eastern and northeastern parts of the state. The portion that includes the Shenandoah River, for example, is very nice. Thomas Jefferson said that Harper's Ferry, where the Shenandoah meets the Potomac, "is perhaps one of the most stupendous scenes in nature..." It's a great place.
