He also went after a lot of people who had nothing to do with government. Show biz people, for instance.

The only studio that did not give in to McCarthy and his Goons was the Sam Goldwyn lot. Goldwyn, like every other studio head, had a few of McCarthy's staffers on his payroll so they would tip him off when McCarthy's people were coming. One day they did.

Goldwyn asked them who they wanted to see and they named a Star under contract to Goldwyn. Goldwyn asked an assistant 'What did his last picture do?' and when the reply was it had made more money than any other picture that year Goldwyn threw the Goons off his lot.

And he never heard another word about it.

Once the word spread that McCarthy's people would fold up under the slightest bit of pressure it was the beginning of the end for McCarthy. Ed Murrow went after him and the world got a first hand look at McCarthy. Old Joe then crawled inside a bottle and faded from the limelight.

Republicans today just throw out stuff for the masses to slobber over, and when they are questioned just say 'That was not meant to be a factual statement'.

Or as Santorium used to say before people started laughing at him over it: I know it is true because I feel it in my heart.

If West was on the list for VP.... Hummmm.... He might just fit right in there now that Santorium is gone.
