Wife and I use tracphones. If all you want to do is make phone calls, like phones are supposed to do, you can pic up a tracfone at Walmart for 20 bucks or even less. Last one I bought cose 15 and came with lifetime double minutes, which means if you pay for 60 minutes (about 20 bucks) you get 120. As long as you buy a few more minutes each 90 day cycle your minutes stack up forever. Tracfone uses Verizon's network AFAIK, I've never had a signal problem.
i don't know what your iPhone's worth but I'll bet it's worth a bit.
