Typically, valve ticking usually means a valve that is a bit too loose on the manual adjustables like our cars have.

Do like Charlie says, line up the lobe points with the oil pipe.

I remove the fan an shroud an use the 27 mm bolt on the crank to turn the engine. That way I do not risk damaging or over tightening the PS pulley bolt. As the valves are adjusted, the engine get a bit more difficult to turn manually.
