Well, running them over seems a little much. A lot too much actually.
When I was in Rome in 1973 one day we were walking along the street and suddenly there was a lot of screaming up ahead. A crowd gathered. As we got closer it was a couple of women "fighting" loudly.
I noticed a kid moving around the perimeter picking pockets while the women put on a loud show.
They all appeared to be working together and appeared to be Gypsies.
Being a small town country boy I always keep my money in my front pocket and when in a big crowd in a big city I put my hand on it.
Never been pick pocketed so far.
When traveling in Europe I have used a big trucker style folding leather wallet on a chain that will fit either in an inner coat pocket or the rear pocket of jeans. In that goes the money and the passports. I keep all that crucial stuff on my person in easy to monitor (for me) locations.
