I've replanted one bucket with pumpkins and the other with water melons. Deer are a big issue here as well. If you feel like playing around a bit, any of those vine-producing plants (cukes, squash, pumpkins) will grow up a trellis. Growing them upward gives you more room to grow more things. My brother did a bunch of pumpkins and squash in Earth Boxes last year and built some trellis' out of conduit and string and was pretty successful. It was very strange seeing the Jack O'Lantern pumpkins hanging there. Obviously, one needs to be sure that the trellis is firmly anchored if one is going to (potentially) cover it with 15-20 lb. pumpkins. Of course, they would then be the perfect eating height for the deer.
